Epic’s 41.20 Fortnite ecosystem update brought the first wave of Sidekick control rigs to UEFN, letting creators animate Sidekicks with the same rig structure Epic uses internally. The release notes also say islands featuring Sidekicks and Creatures-themed assets became publishable starting July 23, 2026. Epic release notes
What changed in 41.20
- Sidekick Control Rig support arrived in UEFN.
- Sidekick and Creatures-themed islands became publishable on July 23, 2026.
- Epic added new galleries and a feature example for creature-focused builds.
- The update also mentioned in-world UMG Widgets and new content assets.
The documentation says the initial Sidekick archetypes include Dog Large, Dog Small, and Cat Small. That makes the update more than a cosmetic add-on: it gives creators a clearer animation workflow for companion-driven islands. Epic release notes
Why this matters for creators
For IslandAtlas readers, the practical takeaway is that companion islands can now move from prototype to publishable content. Epic also notes new galleries such as architecture, farm, pet props, and updated foliage, which should help creators build more polished creature hubs. Epic release notes
