Epic’s 41.20 Fortnite ecosystem update went live on July 16, 2026 and added Control Rig support for Sidekicks, plus in-world UMG widgets and new content for islands. Epic says creators can start publishing islands featuring Sidekicks and Creatures-themed assets on July 23. 41.20 release notes

The update says the first wave of Sidekick rigs covers Dog Large, Dog Small, and Cat Small, built on the same rig structures Epic uses internally. That means creators can animate Sidekicks with the same workflows used in the game itself. 41.20 release notes

What changes on July 23

  • Publishing opens for islands featuring Sidekicks and Creatures-themed assets.
  • Creators are told to select the Creatures tag for discoverability.
  • Epic says creature-based games get a dedicated Discover collection.

The same release notes also point creators to in-island transactions as a monetization option for creature-based games, while noting that islands must follow the Fortnite Developer Rules. That makes July 23 a practical milestone for creators building companion-driven or creature-collection experiences. 41.20 release notes

Epic separately says LLM-powered NPC conversations will exit Experimental on July 30, with consistent voices and personas added to 36 Fortnite characters in the current release. 41.20 release notes
