Epic’s current UEFN push is now split into two milestones: Sidekicks are already available as scriptable NPCs, while LLM-powered conversations become publishable on July 30. Epic says the Sidekick update is aimed at creature-based experiences and companion-style gameplay, and the LLM rollout will move those conversations out of Experimental status. What changed for creators

  • Sidekicks can be customized, scripted with Verse, and animated in UEFN.
  • Epic says creators can even bring a player's own Sidekick into an island.
  • The Sidekick launch is tied to a creature-based collection page and Discover featuring opportunities.
  • For LLM islands, Epic says Creator Portal will get new analytics to track conversation engagement.

The July 16 announcement also said 36 Fortnite characters now have consistent voices and personas when used as NPCs. Epic says those voices are powered by performances captured from independent professional actors for use in developer-made islands. Epic’s LLM post.

For IslandAtlas readers, the key takeaway is simple: this is a live tooling change, not just a roadmap item. Sidekicks are available now, and the LLM publishing gate opens on July 30, 2026. Sidekicks post / LLM conversations post.
