Epic published a Fortnite update on June 5, 2026 saying Fortnite Sidekicks are now available as scriptable NPCs in Unreal Editor for Fortnite. The same post says creators can start building immediately and publish islands starting July 23. Fortnite news
What creators can do
- Customize how Sidekicks look.
- Script their behavior with Verse.
- Animate them for creature-based games and companion adventures.
Epic says the feature is meant to expand the kinds of games creators can build, including monster battlers, cozy farming games, creature-collection RPGs and companion adventures. The company also says these islands may be featured on a new creature-based Collection page, plus via Epic’s Picks and a Callout. Fortnite news
The July 23 publishing date is the key operational detail for creators watching the rollout. Until then, the feature is available for building and testing, but not for public publishing under the new Sidekicks format. Fortnite news
