Epic’s 41.20 Fortnite ecosystem update landed on July 16, 2026, adding several creator-facing features at once. The release notes say the update brings Control Rig support for Sidekicks, consistent voices and personas for 36 Fortnite characters in LLM conversations, and in-world UMG Widgets. The biggest workflow change is the new Sidekick rigging support. Epic says the first wave of Control Rigs for Sidekicks is available in UEFN, with built-in archetypes including Dog Large, Dog Small, and Cat Small. (dev.epicgames.com)
Publishing dates to watch
- July 23, 2026: Epic says creators can publish islands featuring Sidekicks and Creatures-themed assets. (dev.epicgames.com)
- July 30, 2026: LLM conversations exit Experimental, and Epic says creators will be able to publish islands with LLM-powered NPCs and characters. (fortnite.com)
- Epic also says it will add new analytics in Creator Portal so creators can track how players engage with conversations in their islands. (fortnite.com)
For IslandAtlas readers, the practical takeaway is that 41.20 is less about battle royale content and more about expanding what UEFN creators can build and measure. Epic is pairing the new tools with near-term publishing windows, which should make this one of the most important ecosystem updates of the month. (dev.epicgames.com)
