Epic’s 41.20 Fortnite ecosystem update brought a notable batch of creator-facing changes on July 16, 2026. The update added Control Rig support for Sidekicks, consistent voices and personas for 36 Fortnite characters in LLM conversations, and in-world UMG widgets.
What changed for creators
- Sidekicks can now be animated with Control Rig in UEFN.
- LLM conversations use consistent voices and personas for 36 Fortnite characters.
- In-world UMG widgets are available for island UI.
- New content includes the Bank Shot Pistol, Smoke Grenade, Friend Zone Bubble, and Sinister Strip prefabs and galleries.
Epic’s documentation says the first wave of Sidekick Control Rigs covers three archetypes: Dog Large, Dog Small, and Cat Small. That gives creators more direct animation control over companion-style content inside UEFN. Epic’s release notes frame the feature as using the same rig structures Epic uses internally.
The same update also set a new publishing milestone: Epic said creators could start publishing islands featuring Sidekicks and Creatures-themed assets on July 23, 2026. The notes also add that creature-based games must follow Fortnite Developer Rules, including guidelines and payout terms for in-island transactions.
