Epic announced on July 16, 2026 that LLM-powered conversations will exit Experimental on July 30, allowing creators to publish islands with conversational NPCs and characters. The company said a subset of Fortnite IP characters will be locked to fixed voices and personas starting with v41.30. Fortnite news Fortnite news hub

New publishing rules

  • Publishing opens July 30 for islands that use LLM conversations.
  • A subset of Fortnite IP characters will no longer be editable and will keep consistent voices and personas.
  • Epic says Creator Portal will add new analytics to track conversation engagement.

Epic also said the voices for 36 Fortnite characters are now consistent when those characters are used as NPCs, and that the performances were captured from independent professional actors for use in developer-made islands. The post says Epic plans to work with relevant guilds and character voice actors to explore broader voice availability across the Fortnite ecosystem. Fortnite news

Why this is a notable creator change

  • It turns a previously experimental feature into a publishable one.
  • It adds a new layer of NPC personality control for island design.
  • It gives creators analytics specifically tied to conversations.

For UEFN teams, the key change is not just the July 30 date — it is that Epic is pairing publication access with stricter character identity rules and performance tracking. That suggests the company is trying to make AI-driven interactions feel more stable before the feature scales wider. Fortnite news
