Epic says LLM-powered conversations will exit Experimental on July 30, 2026, allowing creators to publish islands with AI-driven NPCs and characters. In its July 16 announcement, Epic said the change arrives with v41.30 and adds new Creator Portal analytics for conversation engagement. Epic’s post also says a subset of Fortnite IP characters will be locked to their voices and personas starting with that release.
What Epic says is changing
- Publishable islands with LLM-powered NPC conversations become available July 30.
- A subset of Fortnite IP characters will no longer be editable for voice and persona in v41.30.
- Epic says 36 Fortnite characters now have consistent voices and personas when used as NPCs.
Epic says those character voices are powered by performances captured from independent professional actors for use in developer-made islands. The company also says it plans to work with relevant guilds and character voice actors who previously worked on Fortnite Battle Royale to explore broader voice availability across the ecosystem. Epic

The update is notable for creators building narrative islands, companion experiences, and social hubs because it moves conversational NPCs from testing into a publishable feature set. Epic says the Creator Portal will also gain analytics to help track how players engage with conversations. Source
