The first showing went ahead at 2:00 PM ET (6:00 PM UTC), but matchmaking failures kept players from dropping in, so Epic restaged the event at 4:30 PM ET / 8:30 PM UTC, telling players to join by 4:25 PM ET. The rerun, not the original slot, is how most people actually saw it.

What happened in the event

The Devourer surfaced off the coast and moved on the Vault. The Paradigm answered in Mecha Team Leader, drew on the Zero Point mid-fight, and finished the monster with an improvised sword. That is the same beat the original event hit in July 2019, which is the point: OG is replaying Chapter 1 season by season, and the mecha-versus-monster fight is the one Season 9 is remembered for.

How Epic staged it

• All damage was disabled and the Storm Circle was paused 10 minutes before the event.
• Players were handed a Jetpack for the pre-event window, so the shoreline filled up as a viewing gallery rather than a fight.
• Damage from all sources and the Storm were re-enabled once the event ended.
• Epic's published cutoff for the rerun was to be in a lobby by 4:25 PM ET; outlets covering the event advised loading in around 30 minutes early to beat the queue.

That invincibility window is the detail worth noting for creators: it is the same pattern Epic has used for every recent live event, and it means the event playlist behaves like a spectator mode for its last ten minutes rather than a battle royale. The rerun also shows Epic is willing to re-fire a one-shot live event when the infrastructure, not the content, is what failed.

The season did not end with it

A finale event is not a season rollover. OG Season 9 runs until September 2 — it started on June 25 — so the Final Showdown was the season's set-piece, not its last day. Season X follows it.

Beyond that, be careful what you treat as fact: community trackers have circulated a September 2 start date for Season X and an OG Pass at 800 V-Bucks built around three Season X re-skins, but Epic has published neither the date nor the pass contents. Those numbers come from datamining and season-countdown sites, not from Epic, and they are worth exactly what an unconfirmed leak is worth.

The original Season X in 2019 ended Chapter 1 outright — a destabilised map, remixed Battle Pass characters, and then The End. What OG does after replaying it is genuinely open, and Epic has said nothing about whether the OG track loops back to Chapter 1 Season 1, moves into Chapter 2, or stops.

Why it matters for creators

Live events pull the whole player base into one playlist for an hour, and the traffic does not stay there — it spills into Discover for the rest of the evening. A rerun doubles that window. If you publish OG-adjacent or nostalgia-themed islands, the days around a season rollover are when the OG audience is most active and most willing to try something new, and with Season 9 running to September 2 that window is still open rather than closed.
