Epic has made Fortnite Sidekicks available as scriptable NPCs in Unreal Editor for Fortnite, giving creators a new way to build creature-focused experiences. The company says developers can start building now and publish islands starting July 23.
What Epic says creators can build
- Sidekicks can be customized in appearance.
- Creators can script behavior with Verse.
- Epic says players can even bring their own Sidekick into an island experience.
- The company points to creature battlers, cozy farming games, creature-collection RPGs, and companion adventures as example genres.
Discover and featuring
Epic says islands using Sidekicks will be eligible for a new creature-based Collection page, plus additional Discover featuring through Epic’s Picks and a Callout. The publishing timeline and feature eligibility were described in Epic’s announcement and support documentation. (fortnite.com)
Why it matters
For UEFN creators, the update expands the kinds of AI-driven companions and creature games that can be built inside Fortnite. It also gives Epic a clearer publishing path for this feature, with the rollout framed around a specific July 23 date. (fortnite.com)
