Epic starts testing Arenas as a tournament mode, with no prizes attached
The Arenas Test Cup opened on 27 August with three more Solos dates — 30 August, 3 September and 4 September — across eight regions, and Epic says there is no prizing: this run exists to stress the scoring, not to pay anyone.

Epic has started running Arenas Test Cups, a set of unranked, unpaid tournaments built to put the mode's competitive plumbing under load. The first event ran on 27 August 2026, and the Fortnite Competitive account lists three more Solos dates — 30 August, 3 September and 4 September (Fortnite Competitive). The event pages live under the season's `S42_ArenaTestCup` identifier on Epic's competitive hub (Fortnite).
What Epic is actually testing
- No prizing. Epic states plainly that there is no prize pool attached to these cups. That is the point — a test cup that pays out cannot be re-run when the scoring turns out wrong.
- Solos. All four listed dates are Solos, so the variables Epic is watching are placement and elimination scoring, not duo or trio coordination.
- Eight regions. NA Central, NA East, NA West, Europe, Oceania, Asia, Middle East and Brazil each get their own bracket.
- Standard eligibility. Players must be at least 13 (or their country's minimum age) and have two-factor authentication switched on — the same gate every Epic tournament uses.
Where this sits in the season
Chapter 7 Season 4, Override, went live on 20 August 2026 with the v42.00 update. Alongside the season's Sprites rework and its collaboration slate, coverage of that patch reported Official Tournaments arriving in Arenas and twenty additional Combat Rooms (Insider Gaming). The Test Cups are the first public exercise of that tournament layer.
Why creators should watch an unpaid cup
Arenas is Epic-built, not creator-built, so nothing here changes an island's payout. What it changes is the shape of competitive attention for the rest of the season: when a mode gets an official scoring system, the practice-and-scrim ecosystem that grows around it lands on creator islands — the aim maps, the box-fight arenas, the 1v1 courses. A scoring system that rewards survival breeds different practice islands than one that rewards eliminations, and the four test dates are where that gets decided.
The same v42.00 release also shipped the creator-side work we covered last week: Unreal MCP support in UEFN, three Verse camera modifiers, and an experimental Ability System (Epic Games — 42.00 ecosystem release notes). Epic is building out the competitive surface and the authoring surface in the same patch cadence, which is worth noting for anyone planning an island around this season.
What is still unknown
Epic has not said what a prized Arenas circuit would look like, whether the Test Cup scoring carries over unchanged, or how Arenas tournaments will sit next to the FNCS calendar. Nothing here is a schedule announcement — it is a test, labelled as one, and it should be read that way until Epic publishes the next step.
