Epic has confirmed the name and date of Fortnite's next season: Chapter 7 Season 4 — Override — arrives Thursday, August 20, 2026. The reveal came from Epic's own channels rather than a patch note, with the Fortnite account posting the date and changing its bio to match, and the season carrying the tagline *"Break the rules. Change the game."* Vice and ComicBook both logged the announcement today.

Two days ago the only fixed point on this calendar was the end of *Runners* — August 19 at 23:00 UTC. The start date was inferred, the name was a datamine, and the theme was a rumour. One of those three is now a fact, and it moves the planning window.

What is confirmed, and what still is not

• Confirmed by Epic: the season is called Override, and it starts August 20.
• Confirmed earlier: Chapter 7 Season 3 ends August 19 at 23:00 UTC, with update downtime beginning at that timestamp.
• Not confirmed: the theme. The 'gaming legends' framing — Sonic, Mega Man, Kingdom Hearts, Tetris — is entirely datamine-sourced. Epic has said nothing about any of it.
• Not confirmed: the send-off. A story moment called Unstable is widely expected on Saturday, August 15, but Epic has not published a date or a time for it.

The distinction matters more than usual this cycle, because the unconfirmed items are the ones people are building content calendars around. A tagline is not a theme, and a datamined character list is not a collab announcement. Neither is something to schedule an island launch against.

Three spikes in six days

The reason the date matters to anyone publishing islands is that August 15–20 is not one event. It is three, and they pull attention in different directions.

The expected Unstable moment on the 15th is a Story Moment rather than a full live event, per allthings.how, which tracked the leaked timing at 12:30 PM PT. Story Moments are short and they pull players into Battle Royale for a session, not for a week — but they do land on a Saturday, which is the day most creators' own numbers peak.

Then, from August 19 to 22, the Fortnite competition at the Esports World Cup runs in Paris: 40 duos, a $1,000,000 prize pool, played on Reload. The official competition page lists the format and the field, which qualified through the Reload Elite Series between January and June. Notably, that final was moved out of Riyadh to Paris earlier this year.

And in the middle of it, on the night of the 19th, the season flips. A world final whose opening day is also the last day of a season is unusual, and it means the audience Epic is broadcasting to that week is being pointed at Reload and at a brand-new Battle Pass at more or less the same time.

What to do with the date

• Treat August 19 as the deadline it is. Anything you want measured against this season's audience has to be live and stable before the 19th, not on it.
• Don't debut into the 20th. A new island published on day one of Override competes with Epic's own launch for every impression in Discover.
• The Saturday matters. If Unstable does land on the 15th, that is a session-length spike, not a week-long one — schedule around a busy Saturday, not a busy fortnight.
• Ignore the collab list until Epic says it. Building an island around a rumoured crossover has a failure mode with no recovery: the crossover simply does not arrive.

The useful summary is that the fog cleared by exactly one item. Override and August 20 are real. Everything else circulating this week is still a leak, and the four days between the 15th and the 20th are the ones worth planning against.
