Epic's free-game slot goes double roguelite while the V2 launcher beta slips to mid-August

OTXO and Sol Cesto are free on the Epic Games Store until August 6, with Beacon Pines and We Were Here Together queued behind them — and the store rebuild Epic delayed in July is still pointed at Gamescom.

Epic's weekly giveaway rolled over on July 30 with two games instead of one: OTXO and Sol Cesto, both free to claim and keep until August 6 at 8am PT / 11am ET, per PCGamesN. Claiming is permanent — the deadline is on the claim, not on how long you can play.

What's in the slot this week

  • OTXO — a top-down shooter with roguelite structure, built around a run through an inexplicable mansion in search of a lost love.
  • Sol Cesto — a turn-based tactical roguelite from Tambouille, Géraud Zucchini and Chariospirale, published by Goblinz Publishing and Maple Whispering. You pick from seven characters, each with their own stats and abilities, and descend through a generated underworld looking for a vanished sun.

Behind them, the next rotation is already announced: Worthplaying lists Beacon Pines and We Were Here Together taking the slot from August 6. That is two consecutive two-game weeks — worth noting for anyone who assumes the giveaway is a single title per week and only checks in occasionally.

The store rebuild is the bigger item

The freebies are routine. The Epic Games Store V2 launcher is not. Epic pushed its public beta back in a July 16 update, and the new target is mid-August — deliberately lined up with Gamescom rather than a specific calendar date.

To set expectations, the team has been working hard to deliver an experience that is materially better than what you have today. We will need a few extra weeks to deliver the beta, and we are now targeting mid-August (around Gamescom).

The headline change is structural: Unreal Engine comes out of the launcher, which is where a large share of the client's install footprint and startup cost lives today. The public release is set to bring an aggregated library, a rebuilt library view and new library interactions, per TheGamer.

For anyone building in UEFN, the launcher is not a side detail — it is the same client that ships the editor, and a beta landing during Gamescom week means creators will be evaluating a rebuilt store surface in the same stretch as the show's announcements. Mid-August is a target, not a commitment; Epic has moved this date once already.
